Giants too strong despite resurgent Maroons

DARTMOOR were far too strong for Coleraine at Silvester Oval in the South West District Football Netball League Reserve grade match on Saturday, despite the Maroons staging a third quarter comeback in going down, 16.17 (113) to 5.9 (39).

With 11 shots on goal in the first quarter, Dartmoor held only a 23-point lead at the sound of the first siren as the players had trouble finding the big sticks, but Coleraine had played well and had put pressure on the Giants to cause the wayward kicking.

The Giants double their score in the second quarter and the game was over as far as the result was concerned as the visitors held a 58-point advantage at the big break.

The home side regrouped in the sheds and came out for the premiership quarter reinvigorated as they produced their best term of the contest in keeping the visitors to only two shots on goal while adding three majors of their own to win the term.

The resurgence was not to last into the last quarter as Dartmoor were given a dressing down in the huddle and they came out to record victory going away as they held the Maroons to a single behind for the term.

Liam Robinson, Jack Mellington, Callum Cook, Jack Simonds, Hamish Myers and Jami Buckley led the way for Dartmoor while Tamati Manaia, Andrew Boulton, Stormy Manaia, Samuel Barnes and Eli Crutch never gave up for Coleraine.

The result means that Coleraine is the only team yet to taste victory in this grade while Dartmoor sits on the third rung of the ladder having won two of the opening three rounds.
