THE Horsham District FNL was one of the few Football Netball Leagues to play a full round over the Anzac weekend, with two matches played on Saturday, with twighlight or night games and the balance played on the Sunday.

On the Saturday Edenhope Apsley went up to Kaniva and had a pretty solid loss and Laharum and Rupanyup played a night game at Rupanyup, where the power went off early in the last quarter and the game was awarded to Laharum, as they were ahead.

Harrow Balmoral played the Stawell Swifts at Stawell on the Sunday and had a real battle, but eventually overcame the spirited Swifts by 25 points after being under pressure in the third quarter.

The Swifts had lost quite a few players over the off-season, but had replaced them with a group from the Northern Territory and Tiwi Islands. They were all good skilled footballers and were a constant threat.

Will Burbury continues to lead as joint captain and had another outstanding game, breaking from the centre with pace and finishing with four goals. Cody Deutscher also got four goals and did it in the middle of the ground and up forward.

Archer Cameron is playing centre half back like a veteran and got more attacking and decisive as the game went on.

Matt Jones, Clint Robinson and Connor Deutscher were strong in a defence often under the pump.

Jai Thompson, Mitch Grant, Pete Staude and Will Plush were always committed in a mix of forward and midfield roles.

Although the final score of 16.14 (110) looks a lot better than the 18.30 Harrow Balmoral kicked across the first two rounds, there were still a lot of kickable shots missed and a lot of risky field kicks, which let the Swifts in for chances.

After a tough physical match the week before, the Roos were probably helped by having an eight day break and with a bye next week, they will get a chance to freshen up some sore and old bodies.
